One of the key entries in the 60s soul jazz genre of vibes and organ – a style of music that Johnny Lytle helped create, and really dominated for most of the decade! The album’s got Johnny’s vibes next to the Hammond work of Milt Harris – a really great match that has Lytle ringing out next to warmer currents of sound from Harris – all given support from Wynton Kelly on piano, George Duvivier on bass, and both Peppy Hinant and Jimmy Cobb on drums – plus added conga from Montego Joe, whose work on the set gives the grooves a nice kick from the bottom up! The tunes are short and soulful – this is definitely that 60s spot where soul instrumental and jazz grooves meet.
