Inspired by Italian cinema and iconic seventies gangster films, Dario Bassolino’s début album »Città Futura« presents a compact collection of stirring cinematic arrangements. The Neapolitan musician draws on Brazilian funk, but makes no secret of his more obvious influences. The groovy sound of Italian duo Nu Genea is unmistakable, which is not surprising given that drummer Andrea De Fazio and Bassolino have worked together before. The third member of the group is Italian-Tunisian singer Linda Feki, aka LNDFK, who lends her bitter-sweet, melancholic voice to the song »’E Parole«. Dramatic vocals, disco beats and a classic jazz saxophone combine to create a nostalgic sound that harkens back to the days of yore. Acoustic guitars and flutes invite you to a cosy aperitif on the Amalfi Coast, where snappy guitars meet discordant piano chords as you stroll through the bustling streets of Naples. The half-hour narrative through a utopian southern Italy culminates in a wild chase between strong-willed strings and a trembling mandolin, the outcome of which remains uncertain.
