Audiopile Review: The newest Danish import to blow our minds is Fine Glindvad, known simply as Fine (pronounced feen-uh), dropping her debut album on Escho Records, the same label that also brought us Astrid Sonne’s Great Doubt earlier this year. Leading up to the album, Fine has been busy. She collaborated with fellow Copenhagen native , Erika De Casier, co-writing a handful of tracks together for the K-Pop phenoms NewJeans, racking up hundreds of millions of streams in the process. Her vocals were sampled on “Home”, the breakthrough track for the fast-rising UK duo Two Shell, plus she’s one half of the spacious trip-hop duo Coined alongside Sonne. After this series of successful collaborations, Fine finally arrives with Rocky Top Ballads, an album apparently years in the making, one that doesn’t stray too far from the extended dream-pop universe already cohabitated by her fellow Danes ML Buch, Sonne and De Casier. With dream-pop and shoegaze reinvigorated and re-purposed by the incoming generation, Fine offers a distinct take on a sound that seems everywhere at the moment. But she is clearly well versed in the classics, Rocky Top Ballads leans more directly into the pop half, reaching back to the narcotic daydreams of Mazzy Star and the slowmo beauty of mid 90s Lush. Fine’s breathy vocals, playful and heavy-lidded, lead the way through an ethereal glow of cottony synths, billowing guitar and the occasional stoned break, topping it off with a slide-heavy whiff of starry Americana. A heavenly album from front to back. 200 copies pressed on 180 gram cloudy coloured vinyl, ordered directly from the label.

“Rocky Top Ballads” is the debut album of Copenhagen singer/songwriter and producer Fine. Woven around Fine’s voice, with guitars, drums, samples, and synthesisers, the album visits both country and folk moods but with an underlying electronic world counter weighing. Recorded, produced, and mixed by Fine, the album is the soundtrack to explorations in process and intuition.
