Italian painter and percussionist Wilfred Copello had an interest for Latin music early in his career. In the early 1980’s, he formed the band Wilfred Percussion. He brought with
him an all-star cast of the jazz and Latin scene in Rome which included Argentinean drummer Osvaldo Mazzei and respected trumpet player Cicci Santucci. They recorded Wilfred Percussion’s only album in 1983, and contains covers and original compositions. Covers include original titles by Hermeto Pascoal and Milton Nascimento, reinterpreted in a distinctive Italian groove.
