Audiopile Review: The two minds behind Gaia Tones drop this EP of tracks culled from their archives, dating back to the days just before they donned their current guise. While their releases as GT have tended toward deeply lysergic, near ritualistic riddems, these recordings reveal their more house-oriented origins, albeit delivered in their own idiosyncratic, sideways approach. Exemplary of this blunted take is the nine-minute highlight, “Gaia Planet”, which is propelled by a minimalist drum pattern that wobbles on it’s axis, then submerged in sub-aquatic bass and a hypnotic whirring. Fans of Mood Hut’s early lo-fi and stoned releases like Disco Mantras or those first few Aquarian Foundations 12”s, take note!
Killer swung grooves from the mighty John Swing and frequent collaborator David Soleil-Mon!
