Audiopile Review: Sound Migration, the collaborative label between German imprints Sound Metaphors and Transmigration, keep their outflow of “synthetic dancefloor productions from the 90s” going with a first-time reissue of the early trance cult classic from SYT (Shave Yer Tongue), the lone album released by the UK act. After initially launching on Andrew Weatherall’s Sabres Of Paradise label in 1992, the duo would issue a strong run of 12”s at the dawn of trance via Magick Eye Records (the imprint run by fellow purveyors of psychedelic dance music Astralasia), eventually landing with this epic double album that connected the dots between trance, ambient dub and the exploding underground rave scene. If you’ve already been gobbling up the reissues that’ve circled these scenes, particularly Music For The Radical Xenomaniac or Planet Love series, then you likely already know what’s in store. The duo, made up of Scott James and Chris Hayne (the latter a former member of Astralasia), aim directly for that psychik third eye with a high octane propulsion of stormy breakbeats, warm ambient overtones and a dense layering of tribal percussion and piles of squiggly FX that have become hallmarks of the era. And it still sounds incredibly fresh and futuristic, as all the best electronic music should.
