Jonquera is the avatar of Guillaume Lespinasse, half of charismatic duo Pilotwings and behind mutant rave knocks on Belgium’s PRR! PRR!. On ‘Primitive Sounds Of Intermittence’ he plays to the more atmospheric tastes of cig-touting BH boss Gizmo with a vibrant gallic fantasy meshing organic and synthetic sources into a sort of cinema por l’ouille or the dream journal recollection of an ayahuasca trip. There’s a palpable poetic sensuality to proceedings that also lives up to the label’s comparisons with a “soundtrack to Jacques Rivvette movie” and the mood music of Les Disques Du Crepuscule in a way that calls to mind everything from the first Benjamin Lew & Steven Brown album to László Hortobágyi’s Hortogonals, and signals the sort of playful whims and canny curiosity that makes this one a pleasure to get inside.

‘Primitive Sounds Of Intermittence’ takes flight with the nervous flutes and spangled tronics of ‘La Blagues De Trop’ and holds the attention by a thread between the heart-in-mouth string flutters and subtle cumbia-like undertow of its title tune, thru to its fata morgana finale recalling Vini Reilly doing desert blues with Terry Riley on keys in ‘Rouge De L’Ouest’. It reels along glittering FM synth wormholes in ‘Bocage’ to more grooving highlights for the exploitative DJs in the nimble elegance of ‘Plastique Exotica’ and shimmering metallophonic triplets winking to the late, great Manual Göttsching in ‘Saint-Denis-De-Cabanne’, while the likes of ‘Midi Gafa Archeologie’ braids timelines of Louis & Bebe Barron and Hassell with romantic appeal.
