Wistful ambient classical spirit Jonny Nash is joined by Teguh Permana, Indonesian master of the two-stringed Tarawangsa, for a solemn meditation on the heavy stuff
The shadow of recently departed ambient pioneer Harold Budd looms over ‘Poe’, which takes its name from the Sundanese word for ‘Days’, and is proffered by the duo as a “meditation on death and rebirth as reflected in the passing of time and the changing of the seasons.” From what we can hear, Jonny typically mans keys and synths, supplying genteel backdrops for Teguh’s Tarawangsa, a two-stringed instrument used in the sacred music of Sunda, Indonesia, as heard on his work with Tarawangsawelas and their debut album for Rabih Beaini’s Morphine Records in 2017.
