Indie rock royalty Matador Records are set to bring a trio of classic releases from Texas maniacs Butthole Surfers back to vinyl for the first time in a long time. Among those is 1984’s PCPPEP, the group’s first live release. The new remaster here brings all the Surfers’ much talked ragged glory into purer focus, revealing the singular and trailblazing artistic voice beneath the seething chaos. Whether it’s the falling-down-the-stairs fills of brilliantly deranged blues tracks like ‘Bar-B-Q Pope’ or downright terrifying early hardcore blitz of ‘The Shah Shah Sleeps in Lee Harvey’s Grave’, these freaks were on their own wavelength entirely.
