“‘Entropic Vision’ plays to the spectrum of Milyakov’s broad palette. Established as a sprawling mix of rave techno, ambient, shoegaze, and downbeats over the course of dozens of releases since 2016, he’s been increasingly porous to collaboration in recent years, with everyone from Alex Zhang Hungtai to Bendik Giske and DJ Speedsick. There’s a particular overarching nEuro melancholy to this new batch, sharing a sentiment with his spars no matter what the style, as he typically shifts between widescreen guitar licks, trance, dark garage and slowcore with equal dexterity and feeling.
Sound artist Martyna Basta appears as a flickering candle of choral light amid the midnight gloom of ‘Moon Chant’, almost duetting with Pavel’s lonesome psych guitar, which beautifully morphs into a slowcore/shoegaze cushion for Yana Pavlova’s dusky delivery on downbeat closer ‘The Thrill’. Dutch trance master Torus reprises the sort of feels of their DJ Lostboi link-up on the breakbeat trance glyder ‘Eternal Break’, while Milyakov’s creative bonds with Richie Culver bear more dark fruit on Burial-esque ambient invocation ‘Tesco’ and an achingly moody slant on dark garage ‘Drifting Off’.
Left to his own devices, Milyakov allows for a negative ecstasy rush with the instrumental ‘Gabba-17’, evoking a lush sensation of getting lost in a crowd.” -Boomkat
