Audiopile Review: Debut release from Bristol-based North View Records, the inaugural offering coming courtesy of the label’s somewhat mysterious founder, simply known as oliver. An ambitious mission statement to kick off the label, oliver traces the nearby coastal lines with a sweaty bout of humid headphone euphoria that swoops across the spectrum of modern electronica—house, techno, ambient, downtempo and all the sweet spots in-between are touched upon and blended seamlessly from start to finish. Album opener “Still Life” sets the scene with a starry set of criss-crossing kosmiche synths that eventually part for a complex yet warm bit of astral beat programming.“Plaza” plunges even further into the milky braindance of it all, and the watery bliss of “Ribbon” is the finest example of homespun IDM crossed with ambient-house that we’ve heard this side of Khotin. Surveying these expertly handcrafted cross-pollinations of genre, it’s all the more shocking that this is essentially a debut release (a digital-only drop from 2023 preceded this), the usual scatterings of 12”s that usually lead up to an album of this depth are forgone in favour of this fully formed full length. Best foot forward, no doubt. Edition of 100 and quickly sold out at the source. We only have a few.

quiet thud is an album of immersive electronic music inspired by expansive and untamed coastline. The 11 tracks drift between techno, downtempo, ambient and guitar music, drawing on diverse influences but remaining distinctive and atmospheric in each direction they turn.
