Audiopile Review: Double shot in this week from Snaker, the Japanese imprint that first caught our attention in 2016 with their set for Mood Hut, which saw pretty much the whole MH crew come through for the wildly varied LP. Dormant for the past half decade, they waste no time with these two new ones, both aiming to achieve Snaker’s fairly loose take on contemporary “library”. Well, if you’re a film director looking to score your subterranean cyber-punk epic, then Odopt might be worth hunting down. Landing somewhere in the netherworld between EBM, techno and dark ambient, it’s the perfect soundtrack for a creep through rain-soaked alleys while unmarked helicopters buzz overhead, one full of rhythmic twists and turns and a sharp sense for the dramatic. Flipping to a completely different vibe is the collab between two relative newcomers, KOOLMFL and Sonic Weapon, both connected to Powder’s Thinner Groove imprint. With a bag of scattershot samples, the duo work their way through Mo-Wax-y beats, sun-soaked jazz loops or screwed funk minimalism, the drum breaks cued just off centre in the most deliriously warbled and sideways bend. Wildly addictive. Both very limited.

First release in 5years by Snaker, and the catalog counts 10th.

The first full length album by Odopt, the duo being releasing their signature hypnotic, freaky feeling sound from labels like [Emotional] Especial、Hivern Discs、Born Free and so on.

And they prepared a “contemporary library sound” for Snaker.

Not quite for dance floor or not exactly for home listening, but definitely a unique cinematic sound scape is compiled for a new special experience. Artwork by Masato Mori.
