Cassette mixtape of a vast array of Jean Ritchie’s career. From Alan Lomax to mid 70s.

Jean Ritchie was born in Viper, Kentucky in the Cumberland Mountains in 1922. She was the youngest of a family of fourteen children. Her family were some of the first pioneers in the Troublesome Creek region. Her voice and melodic styles are legendary. Alan Lomax recorded her for the library of congress’s folk song archives in the 1940s and 1950s. She had influenced folk and country singers from Bob Dylan to Emmylou Harris.
