Legendary indie pop group, The Clean [David Kilgour, Hamish Kilgour & Robert Scott (The Bats)] released their fifth full length, Mister Pop on September 4, 2009. The album was recorded by Tex Houston (3Ds, Look Blue Go Purple) in Dunedin, NZ, during February of 2009 except for “Back in the Day,” which was recorded at Marlborough Farms by Gary Olson (Ladybug Transistor) in November of 2008. According to Pitchfork, “[the album reshapes] Clean’s core components into poignant bossa nova instrumentals, propulsive Krautrock-outs and, as only they can, bizarro fuzz-organ jigs that resemble White Light/White Heat-era Velvets.”
