Audiopile Review: Following To The Mesosphere and Penza Penza’s Alto E Primitivo, Frutaria Electrónica marks the third release this year for the wildly prolific Misha Panfilov. Despite the outpour, the quality of transmissions remains mind bogglingly high. After the psych-funk workout from Penza Penza and the lilting, circular spiritual jazz of Mesosphere, Panfilov gasses up the synths for one of his more celestial efforts yet. Though he’s certainly covered this ground intermittently across his now vast catalog—check the lush space-age of 2016 release Kallaste Elektrooniline Muusika EP, the Plantasia-infused Sierra soundtrack, or 2019’s overlooked Heli Maagia LP—Frutaria floats even further into the cosmos. Though the album is one of his most palatable and accessible so far, it’s also one of his most complexly arranged. Frutaria’s ten tracks are gingerly and intricately pieced together, his battery of synths percolating, gliding and criss-crossing the shimmering night sky, occasionally dropping in some luxurious slide guitar for that extra starry glint. Most of you aren’t gonna need much of an nudge to grip as fast as you can, but if you’re just tuning in to the wide world of Panfilov, you couldn’t find a better place to start. Edition of 700. Copies ordered directly from the artist in Estonia.

All music was recorded in various locations in Funchal, Portugal between February and April 2024, including home studio, Estúdio 21, and the Conservatory of Madeira. Some sounds were also recorded in Vila Baleira, Porto Santo, with vocals being recorded in Karigasniemi, Finland.
