A founder member of Soft Machine, Kevin Ayers embarked on a solo career in 1969, signing to EMI’s Harvest label, for whom he would record a series of wonderful and stylistically eclectic albums.
‘Shooting at the Moon’ was issued in October 1970 and featured the band Kevin had formed to promote his previous album, ‘Joy of a Toy’. The Whole World featured Mike Oldfield (bass, guitar, vocals), David Bedford (keyboards, guitar), Lol Coxhill (saxophone) and
Mick Fincher (drums). Also joining Kevin on the album sessions was Bridget St. John, who sang a duet with Kevin on ‘The Oyster & The Flying Fish’, and Robert Wyatt who added vocal to ‘Colores Para Dolores’. The record also featured Ayers favourites as ‘May I?’, ‘Clarence in Wonderland’ and the album’s title track.

This new vinyl edition of ‘Shooting at the Moon’ has been remastered from the original tapes and was cut at Abbey Road Studios. It fully restores the original LP artwork.
