Audiopile Review: Massive groove-aligned meeting of the minds made up of three heavy hitters in the world of psychedelic-tinged jazz-funk—legendary French library producer Janko Nilovic, drummer Igor Zhukovsky of the Russian outfit The Soul Surfers and major contributor to the Funk Night Records imprint, and the in-demand German guitarist JJ Whitefield, best known for his work under his Karl Hector guise and he was also a recent contributor to Madlib’s Library Series. Whitefield and Zhukovsky rip an endless supply of fuzz & wah-fuelled guitar and ceaseless drum breaks, leaving wide open spaces for Nilovic to fill in with the majestic air of his vintage synths. You can certainly hear the sounds of Misha Panfilov in these locked grooves and bucolic synth tones, but this should also turn the ear of Khruangbin fans looking to break into something new.
