Audiopile Review: For those who haven’t been keeping up on who Abul Mogard really is, he’s apparently now accepted to be an alias of Italian artist Guido Zen. Fine. Whatever. One slightly disconcerting aspect of this is that Abul Mogard releases quite a lot of albums. Given that Abul is not Guido’s only creative alias, you’re looking at a striking level of productivity. And yet, Abul Mogard releases never sound rushed in any sense. As anyone who checked his collaboration with Rafael Anton Irisarri (‘Impossibly Distant, Impossibly Close’, which we wrote about last week) will tell you, the quality remains sky-high. Here comes another Abul release, ‘In Uno Spazio Immenso’, and, yep, it’s great. This one is a collab with Grand River aka Dutch-Italian composer Aimée Portioli. And, for extra cred points, it comes via Caterina Barbieri’s Light-Years label. It has that sense of nocturnal longing common to all Abul Mogard releases. And there’s an extra element of cinematic drama to this one. Far from being a generic drone-out, this is a meticulously sequenced sonic narrative.

In the serene expanse of empty spaces, there exists a profound stillness that attracts contemplation. These voids, whether they manifest physically or within the recesses of minds, are spaces for the interplay of light and thought, where time perception is different, allowing for a deeper connection with the inner self. These are moments frozen in the endless flow of existence, a tranquil pause that invites listeners to reflect and to contemplate. The emptiness that permeates this mental space is a canvas upon which ideas are painted. The emptiness that pervades this cerebral realm becomes a blank canvas upon which ideas are woven into existence. Grand River and Abul Mogard’s In uno spazio immenso, (translating to “in an immense space,”) embodies the essence of this boundless expanse — a limitless and eternal chamber where the boundaries of thought expand endlessly. For fans of: Caterina Barbieri, Alessandro Cortini, Perila, Sarah Davachi, Kara-Lis Coverdale, Raime, Drew McDowall.
