The album that defined the Latin boogaloo sound by Bronx-born, Puerto Rican bandleader and pianist Pete Rodriguez, known as The King of Boogaloo. Released in 1967 on Alegre Records, the album’s hits include I Like It Like That, Micaela and El Hueso. The irresistible title track topped the charts and became one of the most influential Latin dance songs of the era.

I Like It Like That, was released on Alegre Records in 1967 at the height of the Boogaloo dance craze. Boogaloo was the musical style that was all the rage in New York’s Latin music scene in the mid-1960s, just before it became known as salsa. The lyrics were in English, Spanish and Spanglish, and the style of music switched from Cuban music styles to R&B and soul. And of all the new bands that performed in that short-lived boogaloo era—like those of Joe Cuba, Richie Ray, Johnny Colón, Hector Rivera and Joe Bataan—it’s the Pete Rodriguez y Su Conjunto that is most fully identified with Latin boogaloo. What’s more, their signature song and biggest hit, I Like It Like That, composed by Tony Pabón and Manny Rodriguez, is the quintessential boogaloo tune of all time. The song hit the national Billboard charts that year, allowing the group tour extensively.
