Decades since his slew of LPs for AFX’s label, Jonathan Taylor’s Global Goon sticks to what he does best with the satisfyingly curdled and sloshing acid-electro-nica functions of ‘Nanoclusters’. The eight tracks mostly hold to a squlechy mid-tempo bounce that really does it for us. Comparisons with Analord classic are rife, there in the tweaky swagger of ‘Khroxic Mould’ and the funked-up Linn-crackign pivot and detuned vamps of ‘Snapterisk’, and tucked into limber electro-funk on ‘Metallik’ or the delectably pendulous intricacies to ’Syntheseers’. We can hear a furtive nEuro-cinematic feel to the warbling pads of his stutter ‘Calcula’, and oily slipperiness to ‘Digit Six’, whereas ‘Metal Glass’ prangs out at higher tempo in nuttier braindance style.
