Audiopile Review: After a string of deep-ambient focused cassettes strewn about the Oslo underground over the past few years, Erik Mowinckel trims his name down (just listed here as Erik M) and dials up the succulent detailing of his airy ventures into a more tactile listening experience. His previous output had a healthy dose of field recordings and glitchy post-production, which isn’t abandoned here, instead, Mowinckel has extended the techniques to create warmer climes. Clips of bells, bird song, guitar, synths, and airy ambience are folded and intertwined through each other into gossamer orbs that float like self-contained environments. Evoking Fennesz’s deep shimmering glitch crossed with the naturalistic sound-sculptures of Michael Scott Dawson and Rod Modell’s glacial tone poems, Erik M’s new moniker feels like the start of something special.

On Soft Wish Oslo based artist Erik M merges noisy home recordings of acoustic instruments with fluctuating bass elements and his own voice to create a personal, muted landscape that carries notions of longing as well as contentment.
