Morphology’s Michael Diekmann returns to his CRC alias two years after his last batch of records with a heavy and detailed set of tracks on his second release for Furthur Electronix. ‘Drained’ opens the darker side of the EP with frazzled synths and frenzied microbeats eking out liquid and metallic qualities, while a moodily zapping bass mutates across the track, and rusted creaks of scaffolding can be heard underneath. Acerbic subterranean rhythms pound throughout ‘Mangrove’, blowing anxious synths to arpeggiated smithereens. ‘Rain’ and ‘Derelict’ make up the lighter half, looking upwards with shifting breakbeats and softer synth palettes.
