Originating from Texas, Big Boys were at the forefront of hardcore’s first wave. As they grew, they began to introduce funk into this scratchy, boisterous form of post-punk. Lullabies Help The Brain Grow, their second album, was released in 1983 and features guitarist Tim Kerr, bassist Chris Gates, and drummers Fred Schultz and Rey Washam – two of several drummers throughout the band’s five year lifespan. With its blasts of trumpet and trombone, the album was their first foray into skate funk.
