Roiling in the wake of his Cav Empt tape, PLO Man’s ‘anonymousmaterial’ prizes the whole “faceless techno” era of ‘90s dance music when a cohort of lowkey artists laid the bed for for today’s LARPers. On each count PLO Man coaxes pulsating rhythms and chattering synths with restless, hands-on discipline that we imagine will beautifully translate to clubs in the thick of it.
‘fig. 001’ gets wonderfully carried away in the wires with a fluttering flux of echo/delayed percussion hinging a ring bass balls in the model of BC, Ross 154, Chain Reaction, and ‘fig. 015’ more explicitly drills down into BC-style techno dub inversion with ideal grasp of deferred gratification. He sweetly triggers your MDMA with the feathered chords and unyielding left of ‘fig. 002’, and no doubt nods to Torsten Pröfrock’s classic Various Artists and Erosion works, or even Monolake sides, via abstract Detroit visions, on ‘fig. 003’.
