Audiopile Review: Vancouver’s Jamison Isaak takes a break from his regular duties as the in-demand producer and remixer Teen Daze, circling back to his Pacific Coliseum guise after a lengthy hiatus. Pacific Coliseum first caught our attention almost a decade back with Ocean City, his debut cassette released at the height of the lo-fi house explosion and issued on Seb Wildblood’s Coastal Haze imprint, a short-lived but important label that became a launching pad for D Tiffany and recent Juno recipient Ciel. Obviously, much has changed since that heady, optimistic era, many of the fresh-faced producers that cropped up during the lo-fi explosion have shifted gears stylistically or straight up disappeared. But Pacific Coliseum remains an unwavering outpost for the balearic house and sun-kissed downtempo that he initially explored on Ocean City. Indeed, still intact are his invocations of hot sand and swaying palm trees, spelled out by his watery synth tones and tropical rhythms. But Isaak’s skill level has appreciated greatly over the years, deepening his balmy take on house with a complex intertwining of percussion, samples and synths that he patiently builds into a euphoric head-rush. Once again, Pacific Coliseum provides a welcome respite in ol’ Rain City.

‘Voice Wave’ is the new album from Pacific Coliseum (aka Jamison Isaak) also known as Teen Daze, his first full-length release since 2020’s, How’s Life. Across 12 tracks, the album weaves through a kaleidoscope of different genres and sounds, all with Isaak’s characteristic warm production. The album features collaborations with balearic legend Ruf Dug and Italian party starters, Eternal Love. Influenced by his love of All Things Balearic, the theme of the album is succinctly summed up in the repeated phrase of the track, “Understanding”: “Let go of what you’re feeling.” Let go, and let the sounds of Voice Wave crash over you.
