Audiopile Review: Spinning Stones, the latest EP from London-based duo ddwy, expands on the sun-kissed rhythms of their 2023 full-length Sprig Songs, offering a hypnotic blend of dubby downtempo and disco-flecked ambient pop. Even though it’s a shorty at only four tracks, Spinning Stones is immersive and engaging throughout, leaving plenty to dig into. From the pulsing, balearic beat-heavy percussion and colourful synths of the title track, the duo go on to conjure the organic mysticism of Salamanda’s liquid grooves on the woozy “Concrete Riviera”, a delicate layering of ghostly vocals over danceable grooves and diverse drum patterns. The first half radiates an addictive and playful warmth that also draws comparison to Sofia Kourtesis’ breakout EP Fresia Magdalena. The flip side burrows deeper—the psychedelic “Surangini” feels destined to be a favourite among fans of Yu Su’s kaleidoscopic dance, while closing track “Theme of the PCCP” sees ddwy put a playful spin on the resurgent trip-hop aesthetic, which, admittedly, we’re just total suckers for. Like ripples from a pebble dropped in a placid pool, these songs linger, shimmer, and invite us in, a refreshing remedy to any sustained winter blues.

ddwy the duo from London is back on Public Possession. Naomi and Ronan aka Nangi and Inner Totality continue to impress with their blend of organic, rhythmic dance music. Mystic vocals intertwine with layers of cosmic melodies. This record is a must for Balearic D.J.s, but will likely also be played out in sleazy dark basements or pubs in the British countryside. You’ll place it, people will embrace it. That’s a guarantee!
