Audiopile Review: Ulla, who likely needs little introduction from our regular readers at this point, joins up with Japanese ambient artist Ultrafog, their first release together despite running in similar circles for the past half decade. Ultrafog has tallied up a shorter resume than his counterpart, though no less impressive, slowly building his resume with releases on the lusted after City-2 St. Giga imprint as well as Motion Ward, who also host this meet-up. Ulla’s imprint can be immediately heard here; flickering guitars and bass, her looped and glitched vocals dotting the humid landscape of Ultrafog’s shoegaze-y textures and clipped plumes of ambience. Imagine Vladislav Delay in prime glitch mode getting an emo-ambient makeover and you’ve got a good whiff of what these two are brewing.
Two individuals from faraway journeyed the world together, and were given many tiny gifts from the surroundings. Then the music came out as a matter of course, as if a thing was being put in its right place.
