Audiopile Review: The duo of MC Mattic and producer Daylight Robbery, together known as Odd Holiday, drop their second album mere months after L.I.S.A., one of our favourite hip-hop albums of 2023. The pairing have clearly struck upon something special here, And Then There Were None continuing their potent psychsploitation aesthetic that has somehow stayed off the radar of the underground’s tastemakers, which should really be catnip for the Dad Bod Rap Pod set. Daylight Robbery continues to refine his smeared lysergic style, once again peppering his dream-like pastiche of Madlib-ian deepcut soul samples and dusty psych-pop lifts with snippets of pop culture and well placed Easter eggs from hip-hop’s past. Mattic is on point here as well, though, if you’ve been following his career as of late, this should come as no surprise. We’ve got a handful of Mattic’s other projects highlighted here this week too, so read on for more about one of the most slept-on MCs in our time. These and the other HHV titles this week imported direct from the source in Germany.
Limited edition of 300 copies on 2LP of “And Then There Were None”, the sophomore album by Odd Holiday. The duo comprised of Mattic and Daylight Robbery! again serves hypnotic storytelling on Jazz-infected beats that culminate on 14 tracks in total. In addition all instrumental versions are added here.
