John Cale The Academy In Peril on 180g LP
Originally issued in 1972, The Academy In Peril served as the second solo studio effort from former Velvet Underground eccentric John Cale following his 1970 debut Vintage Violence. The album is an exploration of his influences and training in classical music and features mainly instrumental compositions including two tracks with the the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Cale balances the rock-classical fusion on the record with touches of humor while the music is beautiful and subtle showing the multi-talented artist’s skills at composing and arranging. In addition to Cale on guitar, bass, keyboards and viola, contributors include Ron Wood (guitar), Del Newman (drums), narration from “Legs” Larry Smith of The Bonzo Dog Band and cover art/design by Andy Warhol. 180 gram vinyl reissue in a die-cut custom gatefold jacket from 4 Men With Beards.
