Uncle Acid is on his way home. A disorientating journey through Kevin Starrs (AKA Uncle Acid)’ wonkiest […]

Hardly anyone would have thought that System Of A Down could surpass their huge success with “Toxicity” again – but the band belies these assessments, because System of A Down sets it again with Mezmerize on it. With brutal songs like “B.Y.O.B”, the record hammered on the Metal-hearing and shares […]
System Of A Down can not be mediocre, recently noted a music journalist. How true: Their second album “Toxicity” from the year 2001 shines with deadly riffs, brutal rhythms and really explicit lyrics. In 14 songs, the quartet on Toxicity attacks everything that’s striking between drug dealers and the US […]
ERDVE unleashes a dark and virulent strain of negative hardcore on their debut album ‘Vaitojimas’ (meaning Shout). The Lithuanian quartet mine the veins of the genre-smashing metallic noisecore of the late 90’s, and filter those influences through an especially hostile attack. Dense slabs of noise-laden riffs churn feelings of unease, […]
“I had a dream about Lemmy,” says Matt Pike, explaining the inspiration behind the title of High on Fire’s triumphant eighth album Electric Messiah. If there’s one aspect of High on Fire that warrants comparison to Lemmy’s mighty Motörhead, it’s longevity. 2018 sees the band celebrating 20 years of the […]

Witchcraft is a record which conjures up the macabre essence of vintage Pentagram and, of course, Black Sabbath, whilst incorporating influences as wide apart as the Jethro Tull-esque folky Prog of “Her Sisters They Were Weak” and the bludgeon riffing style of early 70s Bang in “I Want You To Know”. Elsewhere, Schyssta […]
Re-Release 2018. The title of the “Steal This Album” LP should not be too much for System Of A Down fans, the music is all the more so. The content consists of studio outtakes from the “Toxicity” sessions – and yet is metal at its best. System Of A Down […]
San Francisco-based post-black metal act Bosse-de-Nage have returned to The Flenser for their fifth studio album titled Further Still. This latest album sees the band eschew the sprawling arrangements and hypnotic repetition of their previous efforts in favor of tight, propulsive song structures. It is deliberately succinct in approach while maintaining […]
Sulphur Soul, the latest offering from Canadian black metal unit Gevurah, continues and builds upon the promise laid down with their 2016 debut album Hallelujah!, one of that year’s most recognized albums within the scene. With this album, the band continues to explore their more aggressive and punishing aspects while […]
A decade has now passed since the release of Twilight Ritual, the second album from Little Rock’s Deadbird. Though much has changed in the metal world since then, ten years on the band remains steadfast in their ability to sculpt heartwrenching and gutsy songs from the deepest, darkest places within. […]
Helltown, the forthcoming third album by Electric Citizen is, in many ways, a homecoming. While the title may seem fittingly metal (if not exceedingly so), it actually has real relevanc: Helltown, while also multidimensional, is named after the Cincinnati, OH, neighborhood in which the band lives, practices, and where the […]
Pushing both the death metal and progressive elements of their signature sound harder than ever, The Outer Ones represents Revocation at their boldest, most aggressive and most complex. “I knew that I wanted to go in a darker direction, and this is our most death metal album to date,” states […]
With grim reliability, ARCHGOAT discharge yet more pustulant diabolic foulness into a world increasing moulded in their image. ‘The Luciferian Crown’ is a frighteningly-focused vision of hellish corruption, unsentimental, morally abhorrent and steeped in a violent horror all too real. Contemporaneous with the uncanny classics of Finnish death and black […]
